UTAH, SALT FLATS // USA //

The Bonneville Salt Flats, a breathtaking expanse of stark white salt crust stretching over 46 square miles, were formed at the end of the last Ice Age as the ancient Lake Bonneville receded. This unique landscape, rich in minerals like gypsum, halite, and magnesium, transforms with the seasons, flooding in cooler months and drying into a shimmering surface by summer, making it an extraordinary location for a campaign.

Bonneville Salt Flats

In late February/March, the Bonneville Salt Flats typically experience a mix of winter and early spring conditions. The area is likely to be partially flooded due to seasonal snowmelt and precipitation, creating the iconic reflective surface the flats are known for.

Skies will likely be partly cloudy, offering a mix of dramatic overcast conditions and moments of clear sunshine, ideal for capturing cinematic and reflective scenes.

Beyond the striking expanse of the Bonneville Salt Flats, the surrounding areas offer a rich diversity of landscapes to capture.

Antelope Island State Park, located on the Great Salt Lake, features golden grasslands, rugged trails, and views of roaming bison, providing a rustic and natural complement to the minimalism of the flats.

The Silver Island Mountains, just north of the salt flats, offer dramatic rocky outcrops and sweeping desert vistas perfect for creating cinematic backdrops. To the east, the Wasatch Mountain Range provides snow-capped peaks and lush foothills, creating a bold yet stunning contrast to the stark white terrain of the flats. These varied environments will add depth and texture to the shoot, showcasing a range of Utah’s natural beauty while keeping the imagery fresh and engaging.

Shoot Logistics

As with all our productions, we allow for a recce day, shoot day and hold day. This ensures we have locations finalised, whilst allowing for flexibility to decide on the best weather and time of day. We can structure the shoot as a single full-day session, or expand it across multiple days, depending on the project scope and requirements.

The team would consist of Jessica Ruscoe (Photography and Creative Direction), Christian Peterson (Producer), photography/production assistant, hair and makeup artist, and an on set stylist.

Clients are welcome to join in person or virtually, ensuring seamless collaboration throughout the process.
